CONCEPT / STRIKE
What Is a Gamma Strike?
A gamma strike is not a separate contract type. It is a strike price whose options positioning contributes to the estimated gamma profile shown on a structure map.
Strike versus gamma exposure
An options chain contains many strikes. A structure map uses the positioning at those strikes to estimate where gamma-related sensitivity may be more concentrated. The strike is the coordinate; the estimated exposure is the interpretation layered on top of it.
A practical reading order
First identify the expiration and call/put side, then check open interest and activity around the strike. Finally compare the strike with the surrounding profile, current price, and other reference zones. A single strike should not be read in isolation.
- Use the timestamp and scope of the map.
- Compare concentration with nearby strikes.
- Check whether the data is sufficiently dense.
Limits of a strike label
A strike does not reveal the intent, entry price, hedge, or future adjustment of every participant. It also does not imply that price must stop, reverse, or move toward it.
